Lagoa das Furnas

Lagoa das Furnas is one of the largest lakes on the island of São Miguel and definitely a place worth visiting.

The Lake presents landscapes of great beauty, and on its banks, in the Caldeiras area, one of the most famous delicacies of the entire archipelago - the Cozido das Furnas - is made, so visitors can enjoy it while visiting this place. The pots with the stew, after being well closed, are introduced to the volcanic soil that is at high temperatures, being cooked for hours in these typical natural kitchens.

An old cobblestone road leads the visitor around the lake. The parking is hidden behind a wooded area so when you arrive you can enjoy the serenity that space has to offer.

During the busier times of the year there are merchants selling drinks, snacks and ice creams. There are also usually peddle boats for rent and it is worth this tour as it is a great way to explore this magical place.
